The Santa Maria Novella monks of Florence founded Officina Profuma-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella in 1612, when they opened their pharmacy workshop to the public after having serviced the herbalist and pharmaceutical needs of the convent and Medici family since 1609. They developed the first ever perfume in alcohol especially for Catherine de’ Medici, the Florentine noblewoman who was crowned Queen of Florence. This perfume is still made today and is called Acqua di Santa Maria Novella.
Today, Santa Maria Novella brings together meticulous creativity and production technology using the highest quality raw materials, artisanal processes, modern technology and state-of-the-art equipment to continue with a superb range of body and home fragrances, cosmetic products now available at Mondopiero.
